2014 GHIN Users’ Meeting

With the success of the 2013 meeting and the desire from the associations to curb expenses and time out of the office where possible, the 2014 GHIN Users’ meeting will take place at the Fairmont Southampton in Hamilton, Bermuda following the IAGA conference. The opening session will take place on Thursday, November 6 and the meeting will conclude with our luncheon on Saturday, November 8.

We have established a reservations due date of October 5, 2014 for guest room accommodations. Room rates are $209 per night for Deluxe Harbour/Golf View Room or $479 per night for a One Bedroom Suite. Check-in time is 4:00 pm and check-out time is 11:00 am.

Reservation can be made by calling (800) 441-1414 and identifying yourself as part of the GHIN Users’ Meeting. For those attending both GHIN Users’ and IAGA be sure to let them know you are with both groups. This will allow you to remain the same room during both meetings under the appropriate room block.

There is an additional $11 per person per day plus 9.75% tax resort levy to cover operational and administrative services including trolley service, ferry service, golf club handling and storage. In addition, there is a mandatory gratuity distributed to several departments within the hotel including porterage and housekeeping. If you wish to provide an additional tip to hotel staff it is welcomed at your discretion. Gratuity is on a daily, per person basis, and is determined by the room categories, Deluxe $11.20 and Suites  $12.20.

Although the specific class schedule has not been finalized, here are the activities scheduled for each day:

Thursday, November 6: Opening session/cocktail reception in the evening

Friday, November 7: Breakout sessions

Friday, November 7: Awards dinner

Saturday, November 8: Breakout sessions in the morning, closing luncheon

In order for guests to receive complimentary WI-FI/Internet and Fitness Center privileges, you must enroll in the Fairmont President’s Club prior to arrival using the following website, If you enroll upon arrival at the hotel, benefits will begin with their next stay at any Fairmont Hotel and will not be applicable to the current stay.

Passports are required to travel to Bermuda. Please visit the US government website, for detailed instructions on obtaining a passport. Normal processing time is 4-6 weeks so please make this a priority if you do not already have a passport.

For first time applicants, you must apply in person if:

  •     You are applying for your first U.S. passport; or
  •     You are under age 16; or
  •     Your previous U.S. passport was issued when you were under age 16; or
  •     Your previous U.S. passport was lost, stolen, or damaged; or
  •     Your previous U.S. passport was issued more than 15 years ago; or
  •     Your name has changed since your U.S. passport was issued and you are unable to legally document your name change.

GHP Association & Club Enhancements

Based on your feedback GHIN will be releasing into production several enhancements for GHP Association and Club to assist in club management functions. The release is planned for 6:00 am ET tomorrow, July 23, 2014. There will be an expected downtime of approximately 15 minutes and we will notify you once the release has completed.

GHP Association:

When searching for club information, there are now two hyperlinks available to quickly get to Service Maintenance or the Service Roster. If the user hovers over the Club Name it will display “Go to Service Club Roster”.  When the Club Name is clicked will take the user to the active club roster for the service selected.Service Club Roster


The other hyperlink available is on the Club Number. If the user hovers over the Club Number it will display “Go to Service Maintenance”. When clicking on the club-service number it will bring up the Service Maintenance page.Service Maintenance

GHP Club:

As a club logs into GHP Club they are presented with two options to access their Club Roster. When selecting Club Roster either from the drop down menu under My Golfers or from the link Roster to the right of the service name it will default to an active list of players in the club or service selected.

In addition we have updated the messaging on GHP Club should the service not be available in the future. The user will be alerted “GHP Club is temporarily unavailable. Please check back later.”

Hong Kong Golf Association Joins GHIN®

FAR HILLS, N.J. (July 21, 2014) – The United States Golf Association (USGA) announced that the Hong Kong Golf Association has adopted the USGA’s Golf Handicap and Information Network® (GHIN) for its more than 15,000 subscribers.

Formed in 1968 with a mission to govern and promote the game in Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Golf Association’s responsibilities include selecting Hong Kong national teams, junior and elite player development, grassroots initiatives and conducting international and domestic golf events. The association runs more than 30 amateur tournaments each year, as well as the Hong Kong Open, the city’s oldest professional sporting event.

“We look forward to working with the USGA to introduce the GHIN service to golfers in Hong Kong,” said Ning Li, president of the Hong Kong Golf Association (HKGA). “The HKGA administers the Handicap Index® for more than 15,000 subscribers and golf club members. We aim to provide a modern online system with added benefits and first-class service.”

As a National Sports Association, the HKGA works closely with the four member golf clubs of Hong Kong (Hong Kong Golf Club, Clearwater Bay Golf & Country Club, Discovery Bay Golf Club and Shek O Country Club); the public golf courses at Kau Sai Chau and Nine Eagles; Hong Kong’s public driving ranges; and governing bodies, including the Home Affairs Bureau, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China, and the Hong Kong Sports Institute.

GHIN is offered exclusively through state and regional golf associations, federations and unions as a service for their member clubs to assist in meeting the policies of the USGA Handicap System™, which enables all golfers to compete on a relatively equal basis.

GHIN is easily assessable as a mobile app available free via Google Play or the iTunes Store to any golfer who holds a Handicap Index issued by a licensed golf club through a state or regional golf association that subscribes to the GHIN service.”

TPP Club Enhancements


The enhancements detailed below have been moved into production.


As outlined in our development update earlier this year, GHIN will be releasing updates to TPP Club which will include an improved rapid team entry and an enhanced reports/scorecard module. Additionally we will be implementing performance and stability enhancements. Several web and data services methods have been refactored to improve performance and stability. TPP Club users should see very noticeable improvements!

GHIN will notify you once the changes have been moved out to production.

Team MenuLeveraging the player retrieval improvements from the new Add Player module introduced in April, we are replacing the existing Rapid Team Entry module with an improved version that is also in line with our longer term re-facing effort.

When selecting Rapid Team Entry you will be prompted to create your team group by giving it a name and identifying the number of players in the group.

Key enhancements include:

  • When retrieving golfers it will now show all of the clubs where the player is a member
  • The enter key now triggers a search
  • Same search feature capabilities as what was used in the Add Player (search by name, GHIN # or local #)
  • Based on the number of players in a group you can set player default searches. So if position #1 will always be a member you can set that to search by local #. If position #2 is a guest you can set that to always search by name and select the desired state too.
  • The team name will default to the last names of the players on this page for ease of finding players quickly, but can be renamed at any time
  • Partial teams can be created and empty spots filled in at a later time
  • Confirmation team has been saved into event


Improved Reports Module – We are implementing an enhanced Flash Viewer and BootStrap menu to improve the user experience. This will keep the user on the same page within the browser when selecting the report parameters and they will no longer be pushed to a new tab on the browser.

The are four options for reports. Starting from left to right: Run, Preview, Favorite or add to Favorite and Delete (only available for custom reports).




After selecting Run on a report, the preview screen will display various options for exporting, viewing and printing the report.

Please Note: the updated flash viewer preview screen has been applied to the printing of scorecards only. The print options on the scorecard remain unchanged.

The 9 hole event scoring issue will be resolved in this release.

GHIN Development Report – July 1, 2014

We understand it is important for golf associations to be kept abreast of GHIN development so their own initiatives can be aligned accordingly.  The GHIN Development Report provides a summary of recent activities which focuses on current projects, recaps development and provides information on resolution/prevention and “behind the scenes” initiatives.

GHIN Performance:

  • DB2 Performance and Tuning:
    • The tuning has reduced CPU consumption by approximately 50%
    • The Workload has increased by approximately 120% during peak hours
    • The tuning has made it possible to absorb the workload increase
    • Further tuning is possible and needed to provide additional headroom
  • TPP Online Performance and Tuning:
    • Database tuning has provided improved TPP throughput.
    • Incremental improvements have been implemented and released over the last two weeks
    • Improvements that will provide larger impact are in QA with planned releases during the next 1-4 weeks.
    • These performance improvements impact both TPP Online Assn and Club, with the majority of focus having been on Club (and will continue to be on Club for the next 2 weeks).  The big upcoming improvements will be applied to TPP Association too, with an expected improvement in performance, but not at the same magnitude (because of lower usage for each TPP Online Association instance).
  • Performance Monitoring
    • The USGA is evaluating a new web application monitoring tool that has significant potential for GHIN.  This tool allows for continuous, end-to-end performance monitoring and management of web applications by providing integrated visibility into systems and application performance and availability.  This level of monitoring allows for better prioritization and ability to measure the impact of improvements, as well as allowing us to rapidly determine the cause of a potential issue while seeing the transaction in context.

GHIN Development:

GHIN has moved forward with planned development, as well as dedicating a team to product maintenance.  Recent initiatives include the following highlights:


GHIN Mobile App

  • Better messaging to golfer when internet connection is unavailable

  • Various bug fixes and performance improvements
  • Inactive golfers now prevented from starting the posting process

 Custom Report Designer

The GHIN Development team has been reviewing several alternatives while continuing to work with Grape City on updates/improvements to Active Reports Server.

  • We are currently working on a proof of concept that looks very promising.  Using the same BootStrap development tools used for the TPP re-facing, we can interact with the Active Reports object to produce our own front-end for a Custom Report Designer.  Initial work has included importing existing reports and modifying them in our online editor.
