TPP Association Texting Released

TPP Association Texting is here! GHIN is pleased to announce the release of SMS text capabilities for associations to quickly disseminate important information to golfers or other interested individuals in a specific event.

As noted in an earlier blog post, texting will be available to addresses/numbers within the United States. For those associations who have signed a GHIN Service Agreement through 2016, you may begin to use this functionality immediately. Each association will be provided 10,000 SMS text messages (addresses/numbers within the United States) per calendar year each year of the contract including 2013 at no charge. Texting to international phone numbers will be available in a future release.

For instructions on how to use this new feature please review the TPP Texting Users Guide.

A few reminders for the individuals receiving text messages from the association:

• Text messaging fees may apply. Please consult carrier for information.
• Text messages will be delivered from short codes 78539, 63893 or 70389. These may be added to the contact list for recognition purposes.
• Some cell phone carriers block short code text deliveries. Contact your provider directly to ensure this feature is enabled.

Associations will be billed on a monthly basis for any eligible texting charges incurred the previous month. Once the association exceeds the 10,000 SMS text messages they will be billed at a rate of $0.02 for each SMS message sent to addresses/numbers within the United States. Associations can review a history of text messages sent by tournament through TPP. GHIN can provide overall usage numbers until that feature is incorporated in a future release.

Web Reports: Release Notes for Web Reports (v2.2)

New Report – Club Shaft Labels

The Shaft labels report allows a club to print labels that contain data that would assist a golfer when they lose or find a golf club on the course. The maximum number of fields that can be added to the shaft labels are 4. The report was designed using the template that is available in the client application. However, the fields available per line include: – Name
– Address (Player primary address data)
– City, State Zip (Player primary address data)
– Email Address
– Club Name
– Club Address
– Club City, State Zip
– Club Phone #

New Report – Handicap Revision Scores Report

The Handicap Revision Scores report displays a two column report that has some static data for each golfer as part of the header, followed by the score details for the revision selected. Both the static data in the grouping header and the scores that are displayed will be dictated by the revision filter selected. This report was designed off the client revision scores report.

Club Roster Report – Add data field “Date of Birth”

GHIN has added the “Date of Birth” field to the club roster report. This information will display when the fields is “selected” and the GHIN number that is being displayed is tied to a date of birth.

9-Hole Scores Posted Report – Add data field for Uncombined 9-hole score

The ability to see whether an 18-hole golfer golfer has a 9-hole score waiting to be combined can now be seen via the the 9-hole Scores Report. If a golfer has a valid 9-hole score waiting to be combined, it will be displayed in the first row of a golfer’s listing on the report output page. When displaying the 9-hole score waiting to be combined, the First Nine and Second Nine will blank and the the 9-hole score will be displayed in the third column in bold and italic font style.

Web Reports – Add Up/Down Arrows to Selected List (where needed)

The following configuration page for the following reports have been modified to include the ability for a user to move up/down fields in the selected list. This was not consistent across all reports so we made this change on the following pages:
– Handicap Index/CH (Arrows Needed)
– Handicap History (Arrows Needed)
– Scores Posted (Arrows Needed)
– 9 Hole Scores Posted (Arrows Needed)

All Reports – Should not allow end dates earlier than start date

GHIN addressed an issue where reports that allowed for custom date ranges to be defined allow “Start Dates” prior to “End Dates”.

GHIN added the the formatting option for the Name field as this feature existed in all other reports that the display the name on the report.

Web Reports – Select Golfers throws error when selecting all

GHIN addressed a “Server Exception” error. The issue occurred when trying to run the report after using the “Select Golfers” funtion to select all golfers.

Reduced Golfer report – Report cutoff last columns when paper size = “export”

Addresses an issue with Reduced Golfer Report, where columns were being cut-off if the paper layout option was set to “Export”. This is not longer happening and you will get all column information when exporting.

Headers Not Displaying Properly on All Pages

GHIN did some additional work on the ensuring that the Header area of the reporting displays consistently and accurately across all reports.

GHIN is pleased to announce that we will be deploying the third in a series of three releases to our Web Reports application within the next week.

Please Note: GHIN will notify you when these changes and enhancements are moved to the production site.

 

Highlights of GHP Web Reports v2.2 include:

New Reports:

  • Club Shaft Labels (see example below)
  • Handicap Revision Scores (see example below)

For each of these reports the club will have the ability to select specific golfers or all golfers of the club.

Enhancements:

  • Added the uncombined 9-hole score in a golfer’s scoring record to the 9-Hole Scores Posted report (see example below)
  • Added birth date to the Club Roster report
  • Added “up/down” arrows to the selected list boxes on all reports where it was applicable
  • Added sort functionality to the Address Labels report

GHP Enhancements Webinar

As a follow-up to our previous blog post and release of the enhancements to GHP Association and Club, GHIN will be offering a webinar to cover these changes. Greater flexibility has been given to club officials to perform maintenance on select information in the Club/Service Information area including the ability to change the login password (for GHP Golfer Clubs only). In addition to club/service information club officials now can post scores hole by hole through Rapid Score Entry or Golfer Maintenance.

Associations will be shown how they can copy GHP Golfer posting preferences to all or select clubs within the association including the ability to capture golfer information (i.e. email address) during a specified period of time. We will provide a demonstration on the hole by hole score posting through Rapid Score Entry and Score Maintenance.

The webinar will be held Thursday, September 5 at 2:00 pm ET. In order to participate in the meeting you MUST register by clicking HERE.

For those unable to participate, the session will be recorded and posted to the USGA Info Portal for review.

Labor Day Holiday – Monday, September 2 , 2013

2013 GHIN Users’ Meeting

The 2013 GHIN Users’ Meeting will take place on Thursday, November 7 through Saturday, November 9 at the Sandestin Golf & Beach Resort located in Destin, Florida, immediately prior to the International Association of Golf Administrators (IAGA) meeting. We hope that this will allow more SRGA stakeholders to attend both meetings, while minimizing the time/financial impact.

Although the specific class schedule has not been finalized, here are the activities scheduled for each day:

  • Thursday, November 7: GHP Association, Club, Golfer (morning session) & TPP Online (afternoon) Review sessions
  • Thursday, November 7: Opening session/cocktail reception evening
  • Friday, November 8: Breakout sessions
  • Friday, November 8: Awards dinner
  • Saturday, November 9: Breakout sessions in the morning, closing luncheon
  • Saturday, November 9: Afternoon sessions for those just arriving for IAGA meeting or any GUM attendees

The closest airport to the resort is Northwest Florida Regional Airport (airport code VPS) located 30 miles north of the resort. Pensacola Gulf Coast Regional Airport (airport code PNS) is located about 65 miles west of the resort. Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport in Panama City (airport code ECP) is located about 40 miles east of the resort.

Room reservations may be made online using the following LINK and entering the meeting code 22W718. The meetings will be held in the Baytowne Conference center which is located closest the rooms at the Grand Sandestin. A tram service is available for those who might want to stay beachside.

IMPORTANT: For those attending both GUM and IAGA you will need to call the resort directly at (800) 277-0800 and let them know you will be attending both conferences. This will allow you to remain the same room during both meetings under the appropriate room block.

Texting for TPP Association

GHIN will be releasing SMS texting capabilities for use in TPP Association. For golf associations who have signed a contract renewal with GHIN, each will receive 10,000 free text messages to domestic US addresses/numbers for the remainder of 2013. GHIN is pleased to offer golf associations this significant added benefit to aid in the administration of your events. Text messaging will allow the association to quickly disseminate important information to participants in an event or to individuals that have an affiliation to the event such as a Rules Official. Much like a text message on a cell phone, each text will consist of 160 characters (spaces count as a character). If the text exceeds 160 characters it will count as additional text messages as appropriate. Please Note: GHIN will notify you when these changes and enhancements are moved to the production site.   • Each golf association with a signed GHIN Service Agreement through 2016 on file will be provided 10,000 SMS text messages annually to addresses/numbers within the domestic United States each calendar year of the contract at no cost to the association.
  • If usage by the association exceeds 10,000 messages in a calendar year, the association will be billed at a rate of $0.02 for each SMS message sent to addresses/numbers within the United States.
  • Any SMS message sent to a foreign country/address number will be charged to the association at the actual rate regardless if the association has reached its allotted 10,000 SMS messages.
  • Associations will be billed on a monthly basis for texting charges incurred the previous month.
  • Associations will have the ability to monitor the number of text messages sent using a designated website. Information will be provided once the texting feature has been released.
  • Text messages that exceed 160 characters will be counted as additional text messages in multiples of 160. 160 characters and below = 1 text per recipient; 161–320 characters = 2 text messages per recipient, 321–480 = 3 text messages per recipient, etc.
  • Associations with a signed GHIN Service Agreement that support a sub TPP Association site may choose to share some or all of their 10,000 free text messages to addresses/numbers within the United States. Written confirmation of this including the sub association TPP Site name and how many text messages they are to receive must be emailed to ghinrequests@usga.org by the parent association.
  • Texting for international cell numbers will be available in a future release.
  • Each association will have two accounts created for tracking purposes; one for international numbers and the other for  addresses/numbers within the domestic United States.

Future planned enhancements will include the ability to have tokens in your text message to allow for customization of specific information to designated recipients and the ability to associate manual entries with golfers on the wait list in the event. GHIN has created a TPP Texting Flyer with an overview of the program for the association and for the individuals that will be receiving the text messages. In addition, a TPP Texting Users Guide has been created to assist you in using this new tool. These can also be found on the USGA Info Portal under Documents, TPP Online. GHIN.com Update

It has now been over 24 hours since GHIN.com was propagated and we would expect all parties to be able to access the various sites without issue. Unfortunately based on feedback into Tech Support we know this is not the case across the country. The problem we are now facing is some service providers not going out and getting the refreshed DNS information.

GHIN is at a point where we want to try to force this propagation with service providers. We are gathering data on what service providers are impacted and what GHIN website(s) are inaccessible. GHIN is reaching out to these service providers directly and asking for their assistance in a manual refresh of the data rather than waiting for their system to perform this automatically.

GHIN.com Domain

The outage experienced today by you and your members was a direct failure of the USGA’s auto renewal process for its domains. The USGA does have protocols in place for domain name auto-renewals where multiple departments have responsibilities.  Those protocols either were not executed or simply failed for an unknown reason at this time.  A review of this incident will take place with each of the appropriate USGA departments to understand where the failure(s) occurred.

Action was taken immediately this morning to register the domain name.  Some of you should no longer be experiencing accessibility issues; however, propagation across DNS servers (domain name servers) is required and in some regions still might be impacted and will require some additional time to propagate successfully.

Please know this was an unfortunate coincidence with the handicap revision day but in no way should be viewed as a GHIN infrastructure failure. All GHIN servers were and continue to operate as expected.  Also understand that this is unacceptable for any service, and be assured that GHIN will work to address this going forward.
