GHIN Items of Note

We have a few items to update you on and provide feedback on questions that have come into the office.

GHP Association and Club – new feature available

In GHP a new feature has been added to allow clubs and associations to export a club roster directly from the roster page. These results are compatible with the previous Export Utility tool which was available in GHP Client. The export will be helpful to those clubs who used the export file for third party software such as Tournament Expert or Viper.

The export feature can be found in GHP Association under the Golfer Search option or in GHP Club, My Golfer, Club Roster.

Club Roster

Clubs and or associations can select the filtering options provided and then export the data. The data file will provide the following columns: First Name, Middle Name, Last Name, Prefix, Suffix, Handicap Index Display, GHIN Number, Local Number, Gender, Active status, Handicap Index and Holes.

The HI Display column will show the actual Handicap Index of the golfer including any handicap types (L, M, R, N, etc.) or if the player is a plus Handicap Index (+4.3). The HI column will strip these identifiers (with the exception of the + which will be converted to a -) so the file can easily be imported through a CSV (or other) format.

TPP Association – new scoring page

A new scoring page have been released to TPP Association which have dramatically reducedHBH Scoring
the load time for scoring. We would encourage all of you to run your scoring online rather than use the client. In TPP Admin under the Scoring banner look for Tournament Player (HBH) Scoring.

Users’ Voice
Users Voice
It was asked during our bimonthly conversation if a User can be notified when a new idea/suggestion
is posted. This can be accomplished by logging in to Users Voice and select the Settings option on the top right below your name. From there check the box to Receive live status changes, admin responses and/or check the box to Receive comment updates.

Window 8 & Internet Explorer 10 Tips

If you are using a Windows 8 computer or find yourself installing GHP products on one here are a few quick tips:

1. When installing GHP or TPP Client the user account controls must be turned off and the user account must have administrator access.

2. When on the desktop

  • Holding down the Windows key and the letter E will open My Computer in Windows Explorer.
  • Holding down the Windows key and the letter R will open the Run prompt.
  • Holding down the Windows key and the letter C will allow you to get to your Settings quickly. From the Settings item you can select the Control Panel to turn off the User Account Controls.

3. If you are using Internet Explorer 10, to run any of the GHIN web applications (TPP, GHP, etc.) you must click on the Compatibility View option in the address bar. The compatibility option looks like a piece of paper torn in half and will be located on the far right on the web address bar.

Open GHIN Discussion

Starting this month,  I will be hosting bi-monthly informal discussion forums to review what has been going on at GHIN with regard to development, education, infrastructure and communications, as well as talk about the future of these areas. This is your opportunity to ask questions about GHIN; whether that be development direction, product questions, or general knowledge. I am your advocate and want to learn how we can better assist your golf association’s support of its member clubs, so I’m looking forward to talking to all of you!

The first meeting is scheduled for Friday, March 22 at 11:00 am and 2:00 pm ET. Please use the information below to join the meeting.

So if your bracket has already blown up on Thursday and you need a distraction from how bad you are doing in your NCAA pool, please come join me on Friday for a few minutes. I look forward to speaking with you next week.

GHIN Database Restored

The GHIN database has been restored and all applications are operating as expected. If you are still experiencing issues please contact GHIN tech support as soon as possible, (800) 940-8535 x1.

Again, we will continue to monitor the database closely this evening to ensure there is no impact on the revision tonight. We apologize for this brief interruption of service.

GHIN Database Down

The GHIN database has unexpectedly gone down and we are currently in the process of recycling. This is impacting GHP Association, Club and Golfer, GHIN mobile app, the GHIN.com Handicap Lookup, Online Score Posting as well as the association website widgets. We are anticipating having the database back up within the next 45 minutes. We will continue to closely monitor the database this evening in anticipation of the revision.

We apologize for any inconvenience.

Update Firefox 19.0 Issues 3/14/13

We have been able to resolve the Firefox issues with TPP Online Admin, Points and Team Club Play. The Golfer and Scoring pages were not affected by the new version of Firefox. We will be testing Clubhouse Viewer next. Once QA has completed testing we will let you know.

On an additional note, this upgrade has also impacted the USGA CRP program. When running the Certification Reports only a portion of the page will display. Here are the steps to print preview in Adobe Acrobat:

1) Go to Options from the tools menu
2) Click on Applications
3) Scroll the list until you get to “Portable Document Format (PDF)
4) Change the selection from “Preview in Firefox” to “Use Adobe Acrobat (In Firefox)” by clicking on the item under the action column

These display issues are true with GHP web reports as well.

Please keep in mind, the display issues are a direct result of the Firefox upgrade and Mozilla implementing their own PDF viewer. We cannot guarantee that future releases of Firefox will not default the view back to their own rather than the desired Adobe Acrobat.

We will continue to update you as issues are resolved.

(original post)

On February 19, 2013 Mozilla released version 19.0 of its internet web browser. Most users of the browser have it set to automatically update when newer versions are available. If you are one of those people your version of Firefox is already up to 19.0.2.  We began receiving reports of issues over the last few days and once these reports started coming in to GHIN, we were able to identify the Firefox update as the root cause.

This update has caused several errors to occur within GHIN’s on-line services.  Similar incompatibility errors are also being reported within the larger Firefox user community, indicating the issues are not isolated to GHIN services only.  GHIN Development staff has identified the issue, submitted error reports to Firefox, and is currently working internally on a solution.  We will be testing coded solutions today and will release an update as soon as we confirm the code is tested and working properly.

Some of the known issues are:

GHP Golfer

  • Margins: can no longer be changed for the Dymo label to print properly

TPP Online

  • Withdrawal Dates: Can’t set a refund amount with any of the available options, Fixed Amount, Entry Fee Minus Amount, or Percentage
  • Divisions: Can’t set a Maximum Size and can’t edit the Entry Fee, as it always defaults to the Tournament Entry Fee
  • Qualifiers: Can’t set a Maximum Size and can’t edit the Entry Fee, as it always defaults to the Tournament Entry Fee
  • Match Play/Round Robin – Creation Wizard: Does not save the time when moving from round to round

If you need immediate access to these features, please contact Tech support, (800) 940-8535 x1.  Otherwise, we expect to have a solution later today and will notify you when it has been released. We apologize for this inconvenience as we were as surprised as the rest of the world when this update caused so much havoc.

GHP Online Golfer/GHP Client – Screensaver Spec Update

We have received some feedback regarding the screensaver image that is used for GHP Online Golfer & the GHP Client software.  Using one image for both platforms may not work as the ideal height and width for the images is different in each platform, resulting in a less than perfect image in one platform or the other.

To resolve this issue, we suggest that two screensaver sets be created in the GHP Screensaver Manager.  One set for GHP Online Golfer and the other for the client.

You can access the GHP Screensaver Manager from within GHP Online using the “Other GHIN Applications” menu item.

Once set up, you can use the “Publish” functionality within the manager to send clubs the appropriate images.  We suggest that if the majority of your clubs are using one product – send that set to all clubs first and then replace the image for the clubs using the other product.  For instance, if the majority of your clubs are using GHP Online Golfer and only a few are using the client, send the new images for GHP Online Golfer to everyone first.  Then send the GHP Client set only to those clubs using the client, which will replace the first image set.

Click on the “Publish” link.

Send the screensaver set to the appropriate clubs based on the platform they are using.

We have included the specifications for both platforms below.

GHP Online Golfer

  • Width = 927 pixels
  • Height = 335 pixels
  • File formats =  .jpg, .gif or .png

GHP Client

  • Width = 1024 pixels
  • Height = 569 pixels
  • File formats =  .jpg, .gif, or .png

If you have any questions, please contact GHIN Technical Support.

Mandatory Service Maintenance – Completed

The migration of the GHIN.com website database was successfully completed this morning at approximately 7:15 am ET. All services and up and running as expected.

Thursday morning, March 7th, the GHIN.com database will be moved to a new hosting facility. The GHIN.com website will be taken offline beginning at 6:00 am ET Thursday. We anticipate a downtime of approximately 90 minutes. Services impacted for this downtime will be limited to GHIN.com (Post Scores, Handicap Lookup, eGolfer and eClubhouse) and CRP.

Thank you for your cooperation during this maintenance period.

Development Update

As was discussed at the Users’ Meeting, GHIN has reemphasized its commitment to communication with regard to development timelines. To that end we would like to provide the most recent information on eClubhouse and TPP Club. Below is the current Planned Projects which can be viewed in full screen by going to this link.

Scorecard

We stated our goal was to launch eClubhouse in January 2013 followed shortly thereafter in March with TPP Club. Although we did not make the January deadline, we were able to launch eClubhouse v1.0 mid-February. Even though it was discussed the first version of eClubhouse would not have a commerce component available, it has quickly become apparent the golf associations are in need of this feature for the opening of their seasons.

In addition, during development of TPP Club it was discovered a significant design change was going to be necessary as it relates to the Master Player List, thus necessitating a delay in its release. The design change will allow each golf club of an association to have its own Master Player List driven by a single registration profile for each golfer within an association. The registration profile data will synch with data housed on the GHIN database side (including CRM), while allowing the individual club the flexibility to modify golfer information for their events via the Master Player List without sacrificing the integrity of the registration/user profile golfer data. The synching of this data will be critical as we look to develop the single sign on functionality in 2013.

Looking at the importance of both eClubhouse and TPP Club our efforts are now directed on releasing eCommerce and smaller enhancements to eClubhouse by mid-April with TPP Club available May 1. As development progresses, we will need to be mindful that any delays occurring with TPP Club could push back this release date into June. Once TPP Club is released, a complete load test will be required to ensure the deployment doesn’t adversely affect the high volume of traffic to support SRGA championships or the local sectional qualifiers planned for the first week of June.

While these two items are of the utmost importance to our associations, development is still continuing on projects such as enhanced web reports for GHP Association and Club, TPP OnCourse, the GHIN mobile app as well as CRP integration and mapping.

We will continue to update you as development progresses.
