eNewsletter – Print Handicap Card Counts Now Displaying (August 22, 2012)

The "Total Print HDCP Card" and “Unique Print HDCP Card” counts are now displaying in the “Statistics” section of the GHIN eNewsletter. These statistics will only be collected if you have the “Handicap Card Widget” inserted in your eNewsletter, the “Add Print Link” attribute set to “Yes” and of course if golfers click on the link. The “Total Print HDCP Card Count” will tell you the total number of times the “Print Link” was clicked for that particular mailing. This count will increment even if the same person clicked the link multiple times. The “Unique Print HDCP Card Count” will tell you how many individual golfers clicked the link. GHP Online Golfer – August 21, 2012

GHP Online Golfer – What to Expect!

With the successful release of GHP Online Club last October, GHIN completed the first phase in creating an alternate and complete online solution for the GHIN Handicap Program client application. While, GHP Online Club was designed as a replacement for the GHP Client administrative modules such as member maintenance and preference setup, we knew that developing an always “online” score posting application was not as straight forward.   However, we are extremely excited to report that we will soon be releasing GHP Online Golfer, which will replace the GHP Client Score Posting application and made available to any club using the GHIN service.

Please note that GHP Client support will not be discontinued, but clubs that want to move to the new platform, will no longer use the client.  The client will be disabled, upon setting up a club for GHP Online Golfer use.

GHP Online Golfer Project Objectives:

  • Minimize computer platform at local club level (make a thinner client).
  • Eliminate the need for batch synchronization (transmission and Association Golfer downloads) between club and GHIN database.
  • Update the platform so organization can easily progress to the next levels of user interface – iPad, mobile, etc.
  • Replicate GHP Client functionality and maintain its basic flow and process as far as the score posting process is concerned.  This will lessen the impact and training requirements for end users.
  • Allow each posting station to have access to all GHIN members and all course information from the National Course Rating database.

GHP Online Golfer Benefits

  • GHP Online Golfer operates in real-time as it is connected directly to the GHIN server.
  • One of the greatest benefits is that once a score is posted it is immediately available for review from all online GHIN products.  (e.g GHIN.com, GHP Online Club, any of the GHIN widgets or the GHIN Mobile app)
      1. For your golfing membership, this means if a golfer posts their score via GHP Online Golfer and on the way home his buddies want to confirm he posted that 82, they can easily jump GHIN.com mobile to perform their peer review responsibilities.
      2. For your club officials this means that the score is immediately accessible for file maintenance purposes through the appropriate online applications.
  • Another huge benefit:  No More Transmissions. Clubs will no longer have to worry about their computer using the auto transmission feature to send and receive data because the computer will be connected to the server continuously. Data, including scores and rating information, will be updated on a continuous basis.
  • This platform alleviates the need for networking computers across the clubhouse, just point all the computers to the same URL and no more hassle with “My Network Places”.
  • New member additions will be immediately recognized at all clubs across the country using GHP Online Golfer.

GHP Online Golfer Computer Requirements

  • There are no upgraded hardware requirements for the program; however clubs are required to have a high-speed internet access line directly connected to the handicap posting computer (this may be a strong wireless connection) in order for the club to effectively use GHP Online Golfer.
  • Requires latest version of Firefox, Safari or Chrome.
  • Clubs must choose one platform or the other. They will not be able to run GHP Client and GHP Online Golfer simultaneously. For those associations whose clubs share a computer you will need to coordinate with fellow golf associations on transitioning to the new platform.
  • Moving to the GHP Online Golfer is strictly optional.

We are thrilled to introduce you to the new platform and are looking for associations who are willing to move a few of their clubs from GHP Client to GHP Online Golfer. Your assistance will allow us to quickly make adjustments to the program prior to widespread release across the country. If you are interested in participating, please contact Fran Nee, fnee@usga.org or x3211 as soon as possible.

For those of you who cannot commit to a test club at this point, a comprehensive overview of the program will be provided at the upcoming GHIN Users Meeting in October.
