GHIN Mobile App Release Updates – 2/29/2012

On February 17th, GHIN announced updates to the GHIN Mobile App.  We just wanted to update everyone on the latest releases for both the Android and iOS version.

  • iOS version 1.01.05, which was sent to Apple on 2/17/2012 was finally published on 2/24/2012.
  • Android version 1.01.03 was published on 2/17/2012, but a bug specific to Android was reported since that release.  GHIN has since published version 1.01.04 for Android on 2/28/2012 to address this issue.

As a reminder, GHIN is continuing to accommodate as many association customizations as we receive them, however depending upon your needs, GHIN is working to get these turned around as quickly as possible.  Many times, if you are requesting QR codes and/or landing pages, it may take longer as these are not done by GHIN Staff.  We ask for your continued patience as we get to each association’s customization request.

To date, GHIN has 26 associations that are utilizing the GHIN Mobile App branded for their association.  We still have about half dozen (last I was told) that need to be completed and we expect these to be completed in a timely matter.

Here are some numbers:
Total Android downloads = 1,758.
Total iOS downloads = 4,455

Thanks — GHIN Development

TPP Online – Server Upgrade Scheduled: (2/22/2012) February 22, 2012

GHIN will be taking down all TPP Online sites starting at 5:00am EST tomorrow morning.  The downtime should be limited to 1.5 hours and we expected all sites to be up and running by 6:30am EST.  The time-frame was chosen to eliminate association interruption.
GHIN is utilizing this downtime to upgrade Operating Systems as well as add additional hardware to our existing TPP Online servers so that we are prepared for the 2012 season.  Most notable, the upgrade of the OS, will position GHIN to add even more hardware to our servers, during this season with little to no interruption of our service.  This will allow GHIN to be more responsive should an unexpected amount of demand fall on our servers.

We appreciate your support as we upgrade our servers.

Important Notice – API & CGI Data Access

All of the current APIs and CGIs (Web services) that are being employed by each of our GHIN VASP subscribers and some golf associations are being replaced.  This is being done to extend their current capabilities, plan for future expansion and implement more secure protocols.  A key change in what will be available to a VASP subscriber is that with golfer Handicap Index® inquiry; score histories will only be provided for golfers that are from a golf association that has provided USGA approval for GHIN member data access by the VASP subscriber submitting the inquiry.  All current GHIN APIs will be shutdown on June 4, 2012, therefore implementation of the new Web services will need to be completed by that date to avoid service disruptions.

These new protocols will not affect widgets embedded on association Web sites.  If you have any question about what access you may be using, please consult the GHIN Widgets document on G-PAR or contact the GHIN Technical Support group or email

Along with the new data access protocols, the USGA is also requiring an updated agreement be put in place for such access to GHIN data.

If you have any questions, please direct them via email to

eClubhouse Updates

Please find a few eClubhouse updates below: We received two regression releases over the weekend. One on Friday and one on Sunday. These releases resolved a good majority of the issues that GHIN staff identified as bugs or issues we needed to clean up. Our initial look at the platform indicates that it is a stable release. GHIN Mobile App Update

GHIN Mobile for iPhone is now in the App Store! :

On Wednesday, the GHIN Mobile App was officially released to the App Store.  Please download it and take a look!  Please leave some positive comments in the store!

The Android app was sent to the Android Market the same day as the iPhone version and was released within a day or so.  We hope those of you with Android devices have taken advantage  of downloading and using the app!  Please leave some positive comments in the market!

Beware of Unauthorized GHIN Apps:

On the same day that the GHIN Mobile app was released in the iTunes store another “GHIN” app was launched as well.  The app sported a copycat GHIN logo and was pretty much a clone of the mobile site.   Needless to say, our legal department got involved and notified the developer — it is no longer in the iTunes Store.

This isn’t the first app or website that we have been made aware of that is stealing GHIN Intellectual Property and it won’t be the last.  Please continue to report any suspicious apps or sites to us if you come across them…and remember the real GHIN App is FREE!

Customizations are coming along very nicely.  We have about 14 out of 26 either done or in process.  We were held up a little in getting QR code work done until the app was released into the iTunes market.  Now that it has, we should be able to get through these customization’s  and get custom Landing Pages and QR codes to you pretty quickly.  Thank you so much for your patience!

eNewsletters – You can now modify the “FromAddressDisplay” and “FromAddress”

After after much testing and tweaking with the help of the Colorado Golf Association, the “From Name” & “From E-mail Address” on emails sent via the GHIN eNewsletter Manager can now be modified to reflect your Association Name and Email address. Read the rest of this entry »
