GHP Golfer and Dymo Labels

With the most recent update to the Firefox browser, version 46.0.1, released on May 3, 2016 it appears the paper size selection of the label gets reset to the default. When this happens the Dymo label will print out a blank label.

In order to print the handicap label properly, the GHPOnlineGolferLabel will need to be reselected as the paper size. To do this, follow these steps:

  • Go to Devices and Printers in the Control Panel
  • Find the Dymo Label Writer Printer and right click on it
  • Click on Printer Properties>Advanced (tab at top)>Printing Defaults (bottom left)>Advanced
  • Set Paper Size to GHPOnlineGolferLabel and click Ok
  • Go back to the Dymo Label Writer Printer and right click on it
  • Click on Printing Preferences>Advanced
  • Set Paper Size to GHPOnlineGolferLabel and click Ok

Please click HERE for a visual guide to make these changes.

Note: If you have suppressed the print dialogue box you MUST release that first before doing the steps above. After resetting the paper size selection you can then suppress the dialogue box again.

If you have questions or need assistance, please contact Support at (800) 940-8535 x1 or ghinsupport@usga.org.

GHIN Server Maintenance 11/13/14

In our continuing effort to ensure performance stability GHIN will be migrating its servers to an outside hosting location after the first of the year.

In preparation for the move, it will be necessary to take one of the production servers offline to migrate it to a newly created GHIN production cluster. This maintenance will take place on Thursday, November 13 starting at 2:00 am ET and we anticipate completion no later than 7:00 am ET that morning.

During this period, the following GHIN Products will be unavailable:

  • TPP Online Association (admin, golfer, scoring, clubhouse viewer, points)
  • TPP Online Club (admin, scoring, oncourse, clubhouse viewer, golfer)
  • eClubhouse
  • eGolfer

GHIN will send out a notification once the server has been brought back online.

If you have any questions please contact GHIN tech support at (800) 940-8535 x1 or ghinsupport@usga.org.

GHIN Spring 2014 Development Report

GHIN is providing the following quarterly summary of activities for your review. This is an opportunity to focus on current projects, recap development and provide information on resolution/prevention and “behind the scenes” initiatives. We understand it is important for golf associations to be kept abreast as to development items so their own initiatives can be aligned accordingly.

GHIN Management will participate in the April Open GHIN Discussion  scheduled for next week should you have any specific questions regarding the report.

TPP Club

Add Player entry module released March 28th.

  • Consolidates the functionality of the current “Add/Remove from Club Roster”, “Custom Player Entry”, and “Tournament Player Management” pages, and will provide quick entry of both members and guests from the same page.
  • This development uses the new UI/UX framework
  • Discovery during this phase will be used to facilitate the refacing development across TPP Club.

Rapid Team Entry will follow with a release planned for April.

Add Player Screen

Active Reports Server Project (Online Report Designer)

In April GHIN will deploy an enhanced reports viewer utilizing Flash and modal windows for ease of use.  This release will include:

  • Import function of custom reports is being reworked to ensure proper formatting is retained.
  • Improved  search feature to assist in quickly finding a desired report
  • Refacing that aligns with overall GHIN framework of UI/UX enhancements
  • All standard reports in the report library verified to ensure they run properly and contain all  necessary information

Reports

NOTE: GHIN has been working with ComponentOne, the originator of the client report designer, to develop a plan for our new online report designer. ComponentOne has developed the only online report designer available on the market today, called Active Reports Server (ARS), but it lacks some fundamental features we need, which has limited the scope of our initial integration. While this supports our initiatives in the long-term, it does impact the short-term deliverables and have caused us to reevaluate the deliverable schedule.

Performance Team

  • The team is implementing new procedures to easily and effectively address system performance and stability issues across GHIN products.
  • Initial efforts include repairing broken table indexes, adding new indexes where appropriate, and defragmenting production tables, producing a substantial performance gain and addressing issues with database locks.
  • The TPP Club withdraw team function, which could stall for 4+ minutes and then crash, now runs successfully in about 5 seconds.
  • The team is also identifying poorly performing data queries inside each GHIN application which are to be individually addressed and optimized, with the current focus on TPP Club.

Development Resources

  • A newly hired database administrator has been an integral part of performance team’s initiatives.
  • Three additional developers have been brought on board to assist both with new development initiatives as well as provide maintenance support and apply fixes to existing software.

Infrastructure

  • Upgrades are being made to the Web Servers/Virtual Machines to boost reliability and performance of the TPP environments.
  • Best-practice changes allow GHIN to have in place systems that are scalable for the future growth we expect as an organization.
  • Creating standardized Development, Staging, and User Acceptance Testing (UAT) environments that allow for a more rigorous Software Development Life Cycle and ensure that products are ready and stable before any releases are made to our user community.
    • UAT environments will allow for the GHIN Steering Committee and others to have advance exposure to product enhancements and new features before they go into production.
  • ELMAH (an error logging application) has been implemented to aid in identifying errors seen by customers.
  • Google Analytics have been applied to all GHIN products to identify usage and also support monitoring and performance improvements.

TPP Web Services

  • GHIN released of a new set of web service methods in December, 2013 to extract tournament, player, and member program information from TPP Association.
  • Can be used for CRM integrations and are also available for use by Associations for displays on their websites, as well as 3rd party VASP providers.

Dymo Labels

  • One of our newly hired developers has been tasked with reviewing how the GHIN software interfaces with the Dymo label printer and why there are inconsistencies in performance. Further updates will be provided once the review is completed.

eClubhouse

  • Work is currently underway to redesign the Manage Membership Types
  • Back end database changes are completed, with front end-user interface work to begin within the next week.
  • Fixes to current issues in the production environment will be applied shortly, which include Admin permission issues, event title changes, and zip code validations.
  • Currently 1,603 clubs with over 250,000 golfers using eClubhouse.

Mobile App

Development will begin in the second quarter of 2014 on the following new features requested by SRGA’s.

  • Displaying the golfer’s GHIN number under their name
  • Provide the ability to display the user’s most recent handicap card, which can be used similar to a smart phone boarding pass for Handicap Index verifications at events
  • Improve labeling for the Handicap Calculator to assist the golfer
  • Future development – a user profile page which the golfer can use to edit their contact information at GHIN.

Jack Looby & Ann Riveiro

It is with mixed emotions we inform you that Jack Looby and Ann Riveiro will be leaving GHIN after numerous years of service to the organization. We are so fortunate to have had the opportunity to work alongside them for so many years and thank them for the outstanding job they have done. Ann’s last day will be Monday, November 25, 2013 and Jack’s last day will be Friday, January 3, 2014. We know that many of you want to reach out personally to Jack and Ann and send them off with some farewell thoughts.

Current staff will be absorbing Ann’s responsibilities while we begin a search for Jack’s replacement.

Weekend Association Support

GHIN understands that the work week of the traditional golf association has changed in recent years. Many of you are finding yourselves running association events or fielding TPP and GHP questions from member clubs on the weekends when GHIN tech support is unavailable. In light of this and based on your feedback through survey’s and direct contact with GHIN management, we are pleased to announce weekend association support will be offered beginning Saturday, April 20, 2013. The extended support hours will be 8:30 am – 7:30 pm ET, Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

In order to better understand the level of support needed in the long-term, an initial review period has been scheduled for April 20 through June 30. This time period will allow GHIN to analyze what support is needed by associations in terms of hours and services so that we may solidify a regular schedule moving forward.

On call staff will respond within one hour of contact unless they are actively assisting an association. In that case a response will be given as soon as possible. GHIN staff are prepared to assist with any issues that might arise but please note that some requests may not be feasible with limited staffing. An escalation process is also in place so that we may continue to assist in resolving advanced issues during these extended support hours.

We hope this additional level of support will allow you to better serve your member clubs and individual members.

Contact GHIN support at (800) 940-8535 x1 or ghinsupport@usga.org, 8:30 am – 7:30 pm ET, Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

GHIN Association Service and Support

Following up on the GHIN Users’ Meeting in October, we would like to remind you of the protocols in place at GHIN to best support the state and regional golf associations.

By mutual agreement, GHIN is a service that provides software and services to your association and membership. It is your association’s responsibility to monitor the GHIN service at your clubs and handle all communications with clubs and golfers.

Please make sure that your membership knows how to contact the association with any questions or problems. Any inquiries from your membership received directly by GHIN will be directed back to your association for attention, which may delay the requested assistance. Under no circumstances should your association ever direct a club or golfer to contact GHIN directly.

Your first point of contact for all GHIN related questions should be Tech Support as they are able to support all GHIN products and services. It is our intention to give you the quickest and most accurate response possible so that you can, in turn, service your membership. To help us meet this goal, our Technical Support team will need as much detailed information as possible on the issue or inquiry. Providing specifics will aid in determining a resolution in a more efficiently and in timely manner. When contacting us, be prepared to provide:

  1. Your association number
  2. The club number (if applicable)
  3. The golfer’s GHIN number (if applicable)
  4. Identify the product and/or service you are working with
  5. Steps to reproduce an error message (if applicable)

This information is vitally important as ALL correspondences (email, phone call, and fax) are logged into our help desk to track resolutions. If you are working on an unresolved issue let tech support know so you can be directed to the original support person. If the original support person is unavailable, this will aid the support person taking over the call the opportunity to review the initial issue and provide assistance.

Email: ghinsupport@usga.org
Email any attachments to: ghinsupport@gmail.com

Phone: 800-940-8535 x1
Fax: 908-253-8829

If you do not get a live person when calling, please leave a message and we will return the call as soon as possible.

The Production team may be contacted directly for the following requests:

  • Data entry requests
  • Fulfill supply orders (scorecards, labels, installation cd’s)
  • Golfer merges
  • Association billing questions
  • Specialty association reports
  • Membership card orders
  • VASP authorization
  • Club additions and transfers
  • eRevision/eNewsletter submissions
  • ACRDB and CRP Mapping Requests
  • Router submissions
  • Golfer maintenance (scoring, IGN, deletion)

Email: ghinrequests@usga.org
Phone: 800-940-8535 x2
Fax: 908-253-8829

Please keep in mind, one of the underlying philosophies of GHIN is that we are here to strengthen state and regional golf associations. GHIN makes every effort to provide your association with the necessary tools and assistance to allow you, in turn, to service your member clubs, having our services truly packaged and branded as your own.

Don’t forget, feature requests and enhancements to existing GHIN products are to be submitted to Users’ Voice for development consideration. However, any error messages or bugs you might experience should be directed to tech support as soon as possible.

GHIN Items of Note

We have a few items to update you on and provide feedback on questions that have come into the office.

GHP Association and Club – new feature available

In GHP a new feature has been added to allow clubs and associations to export a club roster directly from the roster page. These results are compatible with the previous Export Utility tool which was available in GHP Client. The export will be helpful to those clubs who used the export file for third party software such as Tournament Expert or Viper.

The export feature can be found in GHP Association under the Golfer Search option or in GHP Club, My Golfer, Club Roster.

Club Roster

Clubs and or associations can select the filtering options provided and then export the data. The data file will provide the following columns: First Name, Middle Name, Last Name, Prefix, Suffix, Handicap Index Display, GHIN Number, Local Number, Gender, Active status, Handicap Index and Holes.

The HI Display column will show the actual Handicap Index of the golfer including any handicap types (L, M, R, N, etc.) or if the player is a plus Handicap Index (+4.3). The HI column will strip these identifiers (with the exception of the + which will be converted to a -) so the file can easily be imported through a CSV (or other) format.

TPP Association – new scoring page

A new scoring page have been released to TPP Association which have dramatically reducedHBH Scoring
the load time for scoring. We would encourage all of you to run your scoring online rather than use the client. In TPP Admin under the Scoring banner look for Tournament Player (HBH) Scoring.

Users’ Voice
Users Voice
It was asked during our bimonthly conversation if a User can be notified when a new idea/suggestion
is posted. This can be accomplished by logging in to Users Voice and select the Settings option on the top right below your name. From there check the box to Receive live status changes, admin responses and/or check the box to Receive comment updates.

Window 8 & Internet Explorer 10 Tips

If you are using a Windows 8 computer or find yourself installing GHP products on one here are a few quick tips:

1. When installing GHP or TPP Client the user account controls must be turned off and the user account must have administrator access.

2. When on the desktop

  • Holding down the Windows key and the letter E will open My Computer in Windows Explorer.
  • Holding down the Windows key and the letter R will open the Run prompt.
  • Holding down the Windows key and the letter C will allow you to get to your Settings quickly. From the Settings item you can select the Control Panel to turn off the User Account Controls.

3. If you are using Internet Explorer 10, to run any of the GHIN web applications (TPP, GHP, etc.) you must click on the Compatibility View option in the address bar. The compatibility option looks like a piece of paper torn in half and will be located on the far right on the web address bar.

Open GHIN Discussion

Starting this month,  I will be hosting bi-monthly informal discussion forums to review what has been going on at GHIN with regard to development, education, infrastructure and communications, as well as talk about the future of these areas. This is your opportunity to ask questions about GHIN; whether that be development direction, product questions, or general knowledge. I am your advocate and want to learn how we can better assist your golf association’s support of its member clubs, so I’m looking forward to talking to all of you!

The first meeting is scheduled for Friday, March 22 at 11:00 am and 2:00 pm ET. Please use the information below to join the meeting.

So if your bracket has already blown up on Thursday and you need a distraction from how bad you are doing in your NCAA pool, please come join me on Friday for a few minutes. I look forward to speaking with you next week.
