GHIN Data on Demand

2016 USGA Handicap System Changes

As you are aware, the USGA Handicap System has made a few changes which will go into effect on January 1, 2016. In order to comply with the changes which relate to Internet score type and Modified Handicap Index, GHIN will be making the following updates to its products.

Internet Score Type

The definition of a score type has been amended by removing Internet (I) designation as internet score posting is a means of posting and not a type.

To comply with this, all scores posted through the internet (mobile app, GHIN.com, GHIN widgets, eGolfer) in a golfers scoring record (including previously posted scores) currently identified by scores type I, AI, TI and CI will be changed to display as H, A, T or C only.

The display will change on GHP Association, GHP Club, GHP Golfer, GHIN.com, mobile app, GHIN widgets, eGolfer and any VASP retrieving score data.

The display change will be moved into production tomorrow 12/17/15. A notification will be sent once this is completed.

On GHP Client, any scores previously posted as Internet (I, AI, TI, CI) and are a part of the scoring record on client, will remain unchanged and display as an I score type. Any new scores posted via the internet and routed to the client will not have an internet (I) designation. If the client club performs a new database download, all previously posted I score types will display as H, A, T or C.

The change to client will be moved into production at a later date. A notification will be sent once this is completed.

Since reporting is a tool used for informational purposes, we have left some ability in place to allow club and SRGA officials to search for and sort scores posted via the internet. This includes both Web Reports and Data on Demand.

Modified Handicap Index

Decision 8-4c/1 Treatment of Player with Temporary Disability – allows the modified Handicap Index to be used outside the player’s home club (i.e., no longer a local handicap).

Decision 8-4c/2, Treatment of Player with Permanent Disability – A player with fewer than 5 scores in their scoring record may be issued a Modified Handicap Index.

Follow the instructions on issuing a Modified Index in the GHP Club Quick Start Guide found on the Info Portal.

New DOD Server and Interface

Thanks to everyone for your patience as we installed a new server for Data on Demand and migrated your existing reports. The new server has been put in place and DOD is once again fully operational. The website address as well as your login credentials will remain the same.

After installation, internal testing on the new server showed improved performance and response times when running existing association reports.

Once logged in, the home page will have a very similar look and feel for the display of your reports with minor changes. Under the Actions column to the far right is where you will find the ability to Modify, Rename, Copy, Move or Delete any reports.

DOD Reports

The interface now provides a friendlier  wizard like approach when designing new reports. This will guide the user along in selecting the data to mine, column configuration and finally sorting and filtering options.

DOD Wizard

A webinar has been scheduled for Monday, September 9 at 2:00 pm ET to demonstrate the new interface and wizard driven creation of new reports. GHIN will also offer tips on creating new reports or editing existing reports to better organize your data to get the results you want.

For those unable to participate, the session will be recorded and posted to the USGA Info Portal for review.

If you have any questions please contact GHIN tech support at (800) 940-8535 x1 or ghinsupport@usga.org.

Data on Demand – New Server

One of the planned projects for 2013 was to upgrade the Data on Demand (DOD) server. While the appropriate upgrades were made last week, it quickly became apparent that while the new configuration of data allowed existing reports to be run, it would no longer allow the creation of new reports or the modification of existing reports using the current interface.

In order to get DOD running to full capacity as quickly as possible on the new server, GHIN staff is in the process of ensuring that existing association reports return proper results. We anticipate this testing should be complete within in the next 10 days. Once verified, we can release the reports onto the new server.

The new server provides a new, cleaner interface with report templates available to better assist the golf association in their data mining process.

Once the new server is in place we will schedule a webinar to highlight the new user interface on DOD.

Data on Demand

The Data on Demand program is currently experiencing the inability for an association to modify or create a new report. The association CAN run any existing report and receive the expected results. We are working with our third-party provider to find a resolution as quickly as possible. We will inform you once the program is running as expected.

New! Year End Reports added to Data on Demand

GHIN is pleased to announce new report additions to Data on Demand, which may assist you with your yearend data requests. These reports are located in the “New! Year End Reports” folder in the shared reports area. A brief description of each report is listed below:

• Rounds Played at Club Report
This report will provide the number of rounds your association members played at a particular course. Scores from all posting methods are included in the report with the exception of any scores entered with manual Course and Slope Ratings.

• Handicap Index Report (JUNIORS ONLY)
This report is intended to find junior golfers in the association with the lowest Handicap Index for a specific revision date range. If you want to run the report for a specific revision, in the revision date select the desired revision date and then select a date in the future not to exceed the next actual revision date. As an example, if you want to find the lowest Handicap Index golfers for the December 1, 2012 revision date you would enter the dates 12/1/2012 – 12/05/2012. If you are searching for plus handicap golfers you must use the minus sign in the Handicap Index Range field. ONLY JUNIOR GOLFERS ARE INCLUDED.

• Handicap Index Report (NO JUNIORS)
This report is intended to find the non-junior golfers by gender in the association with the lowest Handicap Index for a specific revision date range. The gender field is case sensitive so please use capital F or M. If you are searching for plus handicap golfers you must use the minus sign in the Handicap Index Range field. NO JUNIOR GOLFERS ARE INCLUDED.

• Individual Golfer Rounds (JUNIORS ONLY)
This report allows the association to gather the total number of scores individual junior golfers have posted during a specified played date range. The list will include current active and inactive golfers that posted a score during the date range. ONLY JUNIOR GOLFERS ARE INCLUDED.

• Individual Golfer Rounds (NO JUNIORS)
This report allows the association to gather the total number of scores individual non-junior golfers have posted during a specified played date range. The list will include current active and inactive golfers that posted a score during the date range. The gender field is case sensitive so please use capital F or M. NO JUNIOR GOLFERS ARE INCLUDED.

We apologize for the inconvenience.

Revision Performance 6 p.m. Update – May 15, 2012

Revision Performance 6 p.m. Update - May 15, 2012 As reported this morning, we have been monitoring performance to determine the root cause of our network latency. Through a measured process beginning at 1:00 am this morning, we controlled processing, and then selectively suspended various services and operations which helped to isolate significant pieces of the network and GHIN functionality. Based on the gathered metrics, a configuration change was identified and put in place at approximately 10 a.m. EDT. Not only were eRevisions successfully distributed before 5:00 a.m. this morning, overall performance returned to normal levels after the configuration change and GHIN services were quickly reactivated.
