Thanksgiving Holiday Coverage

The USGA will be closed on Thursday, November 23, and Friday, November 24, 2017 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. If you encounter any issues that need immediate attention on Thursday, November 23rd, please contact Fran Nee for assistance, fnee@usga.org or (908) 947-6110.

GHIN Widgets Inactivated

As a part of our commitment to provide reliable service to you and your golfers, we have found it necessary to temporarily stop the services on all GHIN handicap widgets used on your association websites. This action is being taken to prevent the core of our services from being impacted. As an alternative for golfers, the widgets on GHIN.com will remain available for score posting and handicap look up.

During this time golfers attempting to utilize any of the handicap widgets on your association websites will receive a server error. Please note: TPP widgets are NOT impacted on your site.

We will continue to monitor our systems throughout this evening and tomorrow (revision day) and when appropriate turn the services back on. We will notify you once all services have been restored.

GHIN Widget Changes

Over the past year, we have seen increased scraping of data through the GHIN handicap widgets. At times this has forced us to disable different independent services so as to not impact core GHIN services.

In order to minimize risk going forward, we will be making modifications to the GHIN handicap widgets on Tuesday, October 10, 2017.  We will be removing the functionality of the Email Update widget which will impact GHIN.com and any of your association sites using the widget.

We reached out this week directly to all 26 associations that are either using the Email Update widget or link to GHIN.com for that service and requested that you remove that feature. We have also removed the Update Email prompt from your mobile app display. Please note, the functionality to prompt golfers to update their email via the kiosk is still an option and will be supported throughout 2018. In addition, if you have a listing of email addresses you would like to send to GHIN for uploading to the golfer profiles, we will be happy perform that task.

IMPORTANT:

  • The score posting and handicap lookup widgets are not impacted by this change.
  • None of the TPP widgets will be impacted.
  • None of the APIs used by VASP or ADAs will be impacted.

USGA Product Update June Recap

In June we held our third product update call for 2017. There was a lot of important information shared with attendees with respect to our priorities for 2018, initiatives we are working on in 2017 and what products will be decommissioned starting in January.

• With regard to the transition, the USGA is reviewing all alternatives available for the transition from current GHIN applications to the new platform. Once determined, it will be communicated well in advance to SRGA staff to plan accordingly.

USGA Product Update April Recap

Earlier in the month we held our second product update call for 2017. There was a lot of important information shared with attendees with respect to our priorities for 2018, initiatives we are working on in 2017 and what products will be decommissioned starting in January.

For those who were not able to attend, please click HERE to read the high level recap of what was shared on the call. In addition, there are two items to further update you on since the call took place:

 

  • Starting in 2018, a junior will be defined as anyone under the age of 19 as long as a valid birthdate is part of the golfer profile. The USGA will not charge a fee for these golfers as long as the conditions are met. This helps to align more closely with the requirements for the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship.
  • A survey will begin to be distributed to users of USGA Tournament Management who have been active for at least 60 days. Users will randomly be selected no sooner than every 180 days and asked a simple question, “How likely are you to recommend USGA Tournament Management?”. This will help us to understand the acceptance within the golf club community and will allow users to point out specific areas where they might be struggling. We will then be able to alert the golf association as to who might need additional assistance using the software.

2017 Score Posting Season

As the score posting season begins for many of you, we want to take a moment to assure you the USGA understands the importance of providing a reliable service to your golf clubs and golfers alike. Throughout the off season (for most of you) we have continued our regular maintenance schedule as best practices dictates.

We do recognize there are some constraints within our current technologies and find it necessary to take action to prevent the core of our services from being impacted. The procedure to place GHP Golfer (kiosk) into offline mode will continue this year. For the remainder of 2017 if necessary, GHP Golfer (kiosk) will be placed offline (cache) which means members will still be able to post scores at their home course and the scores will be held until the evening when we put the service back online. Any guests attempting to post a score at the club will be directed to post via the GHIN mobile app or GHIN.com. Should other actions become necessary, we will communicate that out to the SRGAs.

The message a member will receive when posting in offline mode is:

Your score has been saved.

The GHIN score posting kiosk is now in offline mode. During this time, member scores can still be posted, and will transmit to the GHIN server tonight.

USGA Product Update Meetings

Starting February 13 & 15, 2017 we will be hosting bi-monthly update webinars open to all SRGA staff who subscribe to the GHIN Services. The objective of these sessions is to provide information on the USGA Product portfolio including USGA Tournament Management, Course Ratings application, new Admin portal, Golfer web/app/kiosk and API services such as VASP and ADAs.

Each session will be scheduled for 90 minutes to allow for the presentation of materials and opportunity for questions and answers. Monday sessions will be held at 11:00 am EST and repeated on Wednesday at 2:00 pm EST to accommodate multiple time zones.

We ask that you sign up individually for each session you would like to attend. Please click on the REGISTRATION LINK and select the desired session(s).

USGA Tournament Management – Important December Updates

As you prepare to introduce USGA Tournament Management to your clubs next week, there are a few reminders and information we would like to share with you.

In summary:

  • Product names will be changed to USGA TM Club, USGA TM Club Premium, USGA TM Association ahead of the January 3rd rollout.
  • The premium onboarding fee ($300) will be waived through March 31, 2017 to ensure that SRGAs have time to plan and communicate this to member clubs and to provide an incentive to clubs who upgrade in Quarter 1 2017 .
  • Standard upgrade pricing ($2500/yr for facilities up to 27 holes) has now been expanded ($2500/yr for facilities up to 36 holes).
  • USGA TM terms of use will be deployed shortly before January 3, 2017.  At that point, all users (SRGA staff and club officials) will be required to review/accept the terms of use upon their next login to the application.
  • Member clubs will be loaded by January 3rd (for any SRGAs who have completed the training requirements and submitted a comprehensive list of member clubs).
  • As a reminder, existing Golf Genius customers will be migrated to USGA TM upon their next renewal date.  Golf Genius will continue to provide Level 1 support for a period of time.  Revenue share payments will begin when Level 1 support is transitioned to the SRGA.
  • Upgrades from USGA TM Club to USGA TM Club Premium will be a manual process initially.
